Finally, a genuine Enneagram book!

Richard Defouw is true to his word when he says, "This book ... has nothing to say on the subject of types." Indeed, Mr. Defouw has written a book that fully opens the mysteries of the Enneagram. I strongly recommend this book to everyone who studies Gurdjieff's Beelzebub: Tales to the Grandson¬ or ¬Meetings With Remarkable Men, or Life Is Real... Mr. Defouw enables the reader to penetrate into the hidden depths of Gurdjieff's writings. I don't wish to imply that Defouw's book means the reader can forego their own efforts, -- his book does enable the reader to realize the fruits of their efforts. Perhaps the best testimony to the worthiness of Richard Defouw's book is his chapter 2, titled, "I" and the Sensation of Oneself, coupled with his vigorous encouragement to read Jeanne De Salzmann's¬ The Reality of Being.
Many of us have found ourselves at an impasse in our efforts to understand Gurdjieff's writings and have a feeling of being just on this side of understanding. Defouw's book provides the wished-for help. I believe it is a given that even through a casual study of the Enneagram, one learns that the sounding of the note "DO" in an octave will mechanically travel some distance towards the next (higher) "DO." For those who have studied Gurdjieff, you have learned that without an external boost of some sort, the development of the octave will come to a halt. Given the necessary difficulty of penetrating Gurdjieff's writings, our own perseverance towards understanding them, and Defouw's book, all the forces are in place to enable the reader to reach the "DO" of the next octave.

Very good book.

In my opinion, the best book on the enneagram. It enlightens what Gurdjieff transmits in his writings and give the answer to many paradoxes. The research done by the author is fruitful, and it is motivating for any student who wants to go deeper into the understanding of gurdjieff's writings.

A review from an expert Nyland wheelbarrow pusher

I too attended the Institute for Religious Development headed by W. A. Nyland and when I asked Mr. Nyland in a private session why there was a missing substance after Piandjoehary, he asked me if I had read Beelzebub's Tales and I replied five times. Then he asked if I had followed the reading instructions at the beginning. I replied no and he suggested that I do so! I guess he did not know the answer. Richard is the only person that I have met who has agreed to the missing gap, but actually explained it!
It is a must read for any Gurdjieff follower.
