Excellent source for those seeking data sources

The book has some excellent chapters on some of the main data sets that social scientists use, including many that I did not know about. The chapters are well written and the programming language is easy to follow. The appendices alone are worth the price of the book -- they give a concise listing of the variables, sample sizes, scope, and where to find these data. I would recommend this to anyone searching for new sources of data, especially doctoral students or those who who are stuck using the same data sets for many of their studies.

Great book

This is an easy to read guide to some great data sets. The detail about each of the data sets is excellent -- gives a real feel of what you will be dealing with if you use of these data sets in your work. Also, I really liked the step by step guide to using these data sets, which, so far, has made using the PSID and the 2000 Census much easier to use than without this guide.
