If your goal is to pass the FOUNDATION EXAM get this book and the companion pocket guide

Why get it --->I ordered the pocket book guideTOGAF(TM) Version 9 - A Pocket Guide and this book and it was MORE then enough to get me through the TOGAF exam in less then 2 weeks - I got 90% on the exam. Everything you need to know is in these two books. So the problem of passing the foundation exam is 100% bounded by less then $100 of books - something anyone could afford so the author has leveled the economic "playing field" for everyone. The exam cost is another issue.
Whats in it ---> The books are reasonably well structured in my view. What does this mean? Well, in my view the most rapid way to absorb knowledge is to view pictures/graphs/chart as the primary mechanism while being supported by textual detail. This is exactly what the author has done. The diagrams and tables are mostly lifted from the 780 page TOGAF official document (tomb) available for free at the Open Group site. Its a good reference but not necessary to torture yourself by going though it cover to cover.
How I used it ---> To be fair, I set aside about 70% of my work day to get this done. I also used weekend time as well. I first read through the pocket guide to quickly gain a 40,000 foot view of TOGAF. Then I pushed through the study guide to get the detail. Not the most delightful content to read but once understood it was a relief that I got it under my belt. Sorta like the experience of getting to navy seal, not so nice going through it but once your through, its real good. I then cycled back through the pocket book and then did the sample exam included in this study guide. Got 75% and the recommendation in the book was, if you got 70% on the sample exam, then go ahead and write the real exam. Not convinced, I then did one more cycle through the book and pocket guide then wrote another sample exam I found for free on the internet. I scheduled the exam for 2 days forward. One day prior to the real test, I went through the pocket book and skimmed the study guide. The morning of the test I skimmed through the pocket guide once more in about 90 minutes. I wrote the 1 hour exam and got 90%.
Next steps, Part II exam, Certified --->Now that I have the basics I will study over the next 4-6 weeks for the Certified level using the TOGAF 9 Certified Study GuideTOGAF 9 Certified Study Guide

Highly recommend as certification exam prep material

I took a class that has both TOGAF level 1 (foundations) and Level 2 (certified) rolled into one and both certifications taken at the end of the week. I found this book to be far better study material than the class itself. I actually even left the class itself go home and study using this guide and some other notes I had. If you learn this book I think you are equipped to handle both TOGAF levels of certification and a very solid foundation to start using it in real life.
I passed both tests - 80% on level 1 and 100% on level 2.

Excellent book to prepare one for TOGAF fondation

Passed TOGAF 9 Foundation exam (I also passed Part II exam the same day in combined exam) after reading this book. I would give lot of credit to the foundation book though. The reason: studying for TOGAF is not very interesting job. It is so much text to go through, repeat, and remember. It is not like chemistry where you can logically conclude something. To be honest, I got demotivated several times.
This book does a great job in simplifying the topics so that the learner can have easier go. Of course, you need to go through the book at least twice to start understanding the TOGAF concepts.
The practice questions at the end of the chapter are very helpful and the full length at the end of the book is extremely helpful. I would suggest the readers to attempt the end of chapter practice questions only after you have read two more chapters e.g. attempt Ch 8's questions when you have read Ch 10. Also take the full length exam only once 5-7 days before the test.
I do not want to brag about it but would point out that I scored 87% in part I and 95% in part II. For Part I, a lot of credit goes to this book by Rachel Harrison and would strongly recommend it for Part I.
