Very good read

I really enjoyed this book. It had just the right mix of sex and romance. This book was so good, I read it two times. My only regret, was I wanted more. I will not hesitate to buy anything written by this author. I found this to be an unusual love story between two people during a time period filled with such hate between the races. It was romantic, sexy and well written.

Master and slave

This book was very interesting to me. Along with the interracial romance element, it also has another theme I love in erotica/erotic romance, that of sex slave/forced sex. And what makes this situation more exciting for me is the historical setting and that the owner of the slave is black and the slave is white. This was an unexpected and interesting turn-around that added to the complexity of the slave/owner arrangement.
I love the power dynamic of a slave/owner relationship, in whatever setting, with or without bdsm, and in this story we have that dynamic charged with the prejudice of an 1820's Southern society very concerned that a free black man could own a white slave girl. When you think how even today such an interracial relationship of black with white still faces on occassion a second look or even a glare, to set these characters in a pre- Civil War time is very brave and only adds to the taboo aspect of the story.
The hero, Josiah, is a free black man, and having inherited from the man who educated him and freed him, he is also a very wealthy and powerful landowner and slave owner. The heroine, Pegeen, has been a slave since she was five years old, due to the poverty clearances which forced her and her mother from working Irish fields to working as house slaves for plantation 'gentlemen' farmers. And in this time, as a woman who is considered property, house slave also meant sex slave, to be used at the owner's will and pleasure.
With a bitter experience in his past concerning a white woman, Josiah sees in Pegeen that woman who was lost to him, a woman whom he still thinks about. Josiah has come to town to buy some house help, and once he sees Pegeen, he has to buy her. He is very attracted to Pegeen, and he does use her sexually and at his prerogative. These scenes are erotic, especially with the forbidden nature of the relationship. As feelings turn from sexual need into something more, both characters are faced with the restrictions of what society will or will not allow them to be to each other.
Black Master, White Slave gave me two things I really love in erotica/ER: sex slave/subjugation theme and an interracial romance. I personally liked seeing Pegeen at Josiah's mercy and command, and there at the end, I also enjoyed seeing that relationship evolve into something more than sex. Overall, I really wanted more of this couple, and with a bit more depth to the ending and a few more chapters, too, this story would have been a five-star read for me. As it stands, I still enjoyed it- the historical time period, the characters and their struggle, the element of master/slave, and the wwbm romance.

A history lesson

Why a 5 star rating you say. Well I would have given a 4.5 but since that's not an option I had to decide...what was it that made me cut the .5 and it wasn't enough for me to drop my rating to a 4.
Honestly with the name of the book I expected something different. Even after I read the back blurb there was a little part of me hoping for a short little naughty story. That wasn't what I got. Instead it was a sweet love story between two damaged people who's only goal was serving the other person and belonging to each other in the way that a man and woman should belong. I got a little lost in some of the old southern names and I have to give credit to the author for being able to keep up with them herself. The character's stayed with me after I finished the last line and isn't that a testament to a good story.
