About the Author
Ronald Schur was born in 1963, the end of the Hippie era, beginning of Disco era, and the continuation of a happy and free society. It was socially acceptable to drink and drug recreationally. In 1983 Schur received his first college degree, in 1985 his second, and in 1988 his Juris Doctorate of Law from Syracuse. His first marriage produced 4 children, his second marriage, twins. Alcohol was always a social lubricant, but came to be as important to the author as oil and gas are to a automobile's engine. The slow process to full blown alcoholic was a sometimes secretive sometimes blistering path, common to alcoholics and addicts, but giving credence to the cliché, a goldfish rarely knows he lives in a fishbowl. January of 1990, the author started what became another reason to drink and be the life of the party, his law practice. Soon, clients and friends, and social activities surrounded the use and abuse of alcohol, and of course, drugs. When his father became terminally ill, and his marriage was a mess and in part a casualty of his addiction, his alcohol and drug use spiraled out of control. Add a second marriage, pain pills from numerous surgeries washed down by Vodka, and a relentless disease that has its own survival techniques and desire to thrive, and his life fell apart and he prayed for death, like so many before him. But the desire of this family man, a sober network and a forgiving community were just what this alcoholic needed to tame the demon and monsters from within. Now come and take this inspirational journey, and share the struggles and triumphs of this author on the road to sobriety.

Eye opening read

I found myself unable to put the book down. The "normal" everyday person tends to view an alcoholic or an addict as the bum on the street who doesn't have a job and is unclean and disheveled. This story, however, adds light to the fact that even a very successful attorney has little to no control over his addictions yet his thoughts and actions are nearly identical to the stereotypical alcoholic or addict. The writer takes you through his journey and his thoughts through each stage. You actually get to see the progression from completely irrational thoughts to the author being brought back to "reality" as his journey through recovery allows him to take control over the monster instead of the other way around. It's not a long book, but I found myself amazed at how much it actually said.

I found this book extremely hard to put down. Not only is the book written fantastically, it was written from the soul. As you venture through this book the author portrays the non stereotypical person fighting addiction. When I think of addicts and/or alcoholics, i certainly don't think of a successful lawyer with a successful business, wife and children. I feel this book should be a required for preteens and college students. It clearly portrays how one might not even know the "monster" exists in them until it's too late. I feel that current and recovering alcoholics and addicts would greatly benefit from this read. It will certainly show them that there can be light at the end of the dreadful tunnel! Great read!! Hope there is another book to cone from this author!!

Spanish Verb Workbook is an educational text which supplies the student with a concise and comprehensive resource to gain an advantage in acquiring proficiency in the Spanish language. Too often language learning has been abstract; however, this workbook makes connections, provides key notes and tips for understanding and remembering the linguistic mechanisms which develop the student's ability to communication, by constructing simple and complex sentences.

Treating the whole gamut of tenses, voices, and verbs, this workbook is more practical since its objective lies in the active participation of the student. At the end of each module is a review chapter which further enforces what has been previously explained. What sets this book apart from the rest is its vocalization lessons, where students have to practice pronunciation, thus improving articulation and fluency in Spanish.

Teachers would definitely find this book supportive in administering in-class and homework assignments. The entertaining and instructive crossword puzzles concluding each chapter spice up and boost the word bank of the pupil, while keeping language learning stimulating and fun. An English-Spanish dictionary word resource functions as a ready reference for students composing and translating sentences. Moreover, a series of conjugated verbs in all forms appears at the ending, emphasizing the grammar, vocabulary, and verb types taught. The Spanish Verb Workbook can be used as a main text for Spanish courses or as an accompanying edition to any main Spanish text.

In order to speak Spanish fluently, you must also learn lots of new words. A resource that I truly enjoyed which is Quick Study-Spanish Vocabulary Flash Cards-1000 cards Not only is this a great bargain for the price but get 1,000 of these flash cards.

For learning how to conjugate Spanish verbs, the best product is the Verbarrator Version 1.1 (Windows Version) software. This piece of software actually replaces the boring Spanish verb conjugation books and makes learning how to conjugate Spanish verbs one of the most fun parts of learning Spanish. And, of course, the more you use the tool the quicker that you will learn how to conjugate Spanish verbs and reach fluency. It is one of the best investments that I have made here at Amazon.com in my learning-Spanish studies.

The last product that I recommend for anyone who is really serious about learning Spanish is The Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice w/CD-ROM (UItimate Review & Reference Series). This Spanish grammar book covers every aspect of Spanish grammar imaginable. To get the equivalent learning-Spanish value of this one book you would have to buy 3 or 4 books in the Practice Makes Perfect series.

This book is a great help for those of us who are language challenged. I went from being a very inexperienced spanish speaker to someone who can read and understand spanish text. As I learn more, I am getting a bit more willing to speak to native speakers and feel I am on my way to my goal of becoming bilingual. Great resource!

Excellent Resource!

This is my "go to" Tagalog grammar resource. The explanations contained in the book are clear, concise and well-presented. The book has a wealth of examples to reinforce the explanations. It is obvious a great deal of painstaking work went into this worthy effort. Fortunately, Essential Tagalog Grammar is not meant for grammarians only. It is well-suited to novices as well as those who are already conversant in the language. My Tagalog "Big Three" are (1) this book, (2) Learning Tagalog: A Complete Course with Audio, Volume 1 (available on Amazon and created by the same folks who penned Essential Tagalog Grammar), and (3) a good dictionary: Tagalog-English/English-Tagalog Standard Dictionary: Pilipino-Inggles, Inggles-Pilipino Talahuluganang (Hippocrene Standard Dictionaries) (available on Amazon as well).

Great Learning Book

I grew up speaking Tagalog and just spent a month in Manila to practice the language. I spent from two-three hours a day with this book, and learn much and quickly applied what I learned to the conversations. For a native speaker and for an intermediate speaker, this would be the book to take to the Philippines. I would not recommend this for a beginner.

I also bought the PDF version so I would not need to carry the hardback version

About the Author
Ed Barr teaches welding and sheet metal restoration in the Technology Department at McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas. Barr has been restoring cars and creating metal sculpture since he was a teenager. Barr graduated from the University of the South in 1991 and pursued a career in art museum administration after receiving an M.A. degree from the University of Kansas. Barr then served as director of the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Barr earned a B.S. degree in automotive restoration technology from McPherson College and subsequently worked at Vintage Restorations Ltd. in Union Bridge, Maryland, where he restored British cars. Great reference!

My first impression of this book was, "Wow! This is a lot thicker than I expected."

I had not heard of Ed Barr prior to ordering the book, but I had heard of McPherson College, where he is an instructor. McPherson is a real-deal, four year accredited institution that offers several degrees in automotive restoration. This book contains the quality and depth of information that you would expect from someone that teaches in such a program.

Professional Sheet Metal Fabrication contains a good balance of information on fabricating from scratch and restoration. Both hand shaping techniques and shaping with power tools are covered. There is a pretty thorough section on using a Dake power hammer, for example. The thing that I like about all of the "how to" sections is that they're clearly written by someone who is an expert sheet metal worker instead of a writer describing what they've seen someone else do. This really separates this book from several others that I own. In a lot of cases, he describes what can go wrong and how to fix it, which can be really helpful.

The book is well illustrated with color photos, many of which show the work of the author's students. The author is also really good about citing the originator of particular techniques or tools, which is pretty refreshing.

I recommend this book highly to anyone looking for a good reference on tools and techniques used in sheet metal shaping.

The instructions and photos complement each other perfectly. Ed Barr knows his stuff and after reading his book so will you.

Top sheet metal fabrication book

I have been very impressed with this book. At covers all aspects of panel fabrication from an honest opinion on what tools to buy and what tools don't really work. It looks at different welding methods and many methods of how to form shapes in sheet metal. I have purchased many books on the subject and find this one to be one of the best.
