Awesome book I have not realized how the events of these books have to do with most of the stories in forgotten realms this clarification on events in Paul kemps ,elaine Cunningham ,troy denning, and emery claytons books the events are almost chronological it's great

Lazy and uninspired writing.

This series suffers from so many problems. The main characters are poorly developed and have no uniqueness for the most part. Only the main character, Aerevin, has a hint of personality. The semi-main characters that travel with him are much less round. They mostly have one or two traits that make up their entire personality, like sarcasm or duty. It feels like they are only there to help the hero move the plot forward. And when one dies or leaves the group, there's always a convienent and equally faceless replacement for them that fills the same generic party role. Seriously, there is an endless horde of side characters that robotically pop up whenever a problem needs solving. By the end of the series, there is an absurd number of these characters clogging up the story. It's so contrived as to become repetitive and predictable halfway through the first book.

This series also suffers from a lot of generic fantasy cliches. Like:
-no one believing the hero when he says there is peril
-the hero being shunned for trying to save the world
-magic dues ex machina items that solve every problem
-"good guys" who don't actually want to fight the bad guys
-absurd amounts of backstory and lore that would actually make a more interesting story than the one being told
-bad guy with an evil artifact that will destroy the world

Another problem is that most of this series reads like a novelization of a bad Dnd dungeon crawler campaign. Very drawn out action sequences, huge set pieces, constant traveling from dungeon to dungeon. There are even passages where it's obvious where the dice would be rolled in a game.

But the nail in the coffin for me is that the characters just don't act like sane, reasonable people. Upon hearing that the villain possesses an artifact that could destroy kingdoms, their reaction is literally to shrug and say "eh whatever". It's as if they're too dumb to understand what's going on. Any reasonable person would be shocked to know this information. In the very least you would expect them to show some kind of emotion or talk about it for a few paragraphs. But the books just skip over this aspect and reduce it down to "well I suppose we should probably go deal with that." This is utterly insane, no one would act that way. I could have ignored the poor writing of the rest of this series but I just can't get over this issue. If you're going to be cliche and lazy, at least have the pretense of realism.

Overall, this series is filled with lazy, uninterested, and uninspired writing.

Great book, this book for me is a great course for achieve quality on my games, in my mind this book will help you make great quality post-productions game projects, I've worked most of my career in code, but I love to draw, but on 3D I have few problems to post effects in 3D, but I suffer a lot to create 3D games with a decent quality, even if the idea was good or the functionality was well developed some visual effects are hard to achieve and most of the time I prefer to work in minimal designs, this book is good because it has basis, and force you to learn and achieve new levels of post-production, the usage of the techniques showed are really good, dealing with lights, textures and different situations to apply shaders, create in me a new way of thinking more like a game design finisher, this is how I feel in this book, having a great power to have the job done with quality, the authors have a great experience and I think that this have helped a lot because the topics that they choose are very important to Unity developers, this is powerful and have a lot of features but sometimes we don't have the experience in some platforms, sometimes one strategy doesn't work the way we think in another platform, and in some areas that we have more difficult this could be tragic, I loved this book, this have opened my mind and now I have more ideas to work in my projects and when a customer ask for a project with some feature I have more options to offer. Thank you for great book. This is real a new level on the post processing game effects.

Unity Shaders Galore!

First I have to just say I love the cover for some reason, I suppose it fits the bill for shaders and so does the book. Absolutely loved the recipes in this book. However if you want to get something setup to test with this book also worked well for that given the approach the author used to get the test off the ground, you can see the pipelines, texture mapping, and rendering all in one! :)

Good book, does it have original engravings?

This review is not specific to this edition. About two or three years ago I purchased the 1959 edition of this book, second hand in very good condition. It is a good read, with a lot pertaining the company and its evolution since the 19th century. One of the things I liked a lot of the old edition I got are the inserts where they printed from original engravings of the ABNCo collection, very highly detailed images with raised "feel" which was characteristic of the bank notes they produced. I'm rating blindly this new edition with 4 stars because I don't know if they also inserted original engraved prints or if they are just "flat" copies (I'm guessing the latter 'cause it looks like a facsimil print), either way i feel it's a pretty good book for those interested in bank notes and their printers.

This is a review of the print-on-demand version of this book which contains atrocious reproductions of the crisp steel plate engravings and halftone images found in the original edition. All illustrations are rendered as low contrast grey blobs - even the text is blurred in places. Unless you need the text don't bother with this cheap facsimile but consult a library for the original or be prepared to pay ten times the cost of this edition for a used copy of the original. Content is quite interesting however.
