This story was re-written for a fantastic February 1949 episode of the ESCAPE radio show. It so intrigued me after listening to it that I wanted to read the original Arthur Conan Doyle story published in 1890. As it turns out, the radio show writer changed much of the story to better flow in the 30 minutes air time, and in some respects made it more interesting. He added some great dialogue. Some Characters changed roles. The basic plot of the radio show, however, remained unchanged from the original story.
Now the original Doyle story focused on the arch villain, the perpetrator and mastermind of the crime, which he has repeated in his Sherlock Holmes stories, and all of the pieces of the mystery fall into place at the end, which has a humorous ending to lighten up this steady paced classic. A quick read....but download the radio show and listen to it after reading this short story...as a treat.
