Bech proposes a novel interpretation of the nature of masculinity and its connections with homosexuality. Besides a critical discussion of existing theories in the area, the author also analyses a rich variety of other materials, including novels, films and other literature. When Men Meet represents both an analysis of the places in which encounters occur - the railway station, the park, the disco, the consulting room, the stadium - but is also a metaphor for key aspects of modernity. In analysing the nature of the modern social world, Bech makes use of insights from Adorno and Benjamin as well as Sartre and Heidegger.

Modernity and sexuality, Bech argues, are both intertwined and changing. He concludes by proposing that, having been created by modernity, 'the homosexual' is now disappearing in conjunction with the changes transforming modernity itself.

Vishram Singh is presently Professor and Head, Department of Anatomy, and Member of the Academic Council and Core Committee PhD Course, Santosh Medical College, Santosh University, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is also Editor-in-Chief, Journal of the Anatomical Society of India. He holds MBBS and MS (Anatomy) degrees from King George's Medical College, Lucknow, UP. Professor Singh has been teaching anatomy to undergraduate and postgraduate students at several colleges and institutes like King George's Medical College, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and has been an examiner to various colleges and universities. My avid reader can't put it down

My 7 year old son has read this book about 43 times. OK, ok, without exaggeration at *least* 7 or 8 times? I've seriously lost track. We went on a 3 day car ride and he was on his 5th time through by the time we reached our destination. And he's read it more since. He loves this series! We have book #1 and #2 and I'm going to go ahead and buy more after how much he has loved the first two.
I haven't read a lot out of it but it has relatively easy reading text that is broken up by cartoon stick figure drawings I presume to be the diary drawings. My son has read me bits and pieces and it's pretty cute and funny. I was going to buy him more in the series while on vacation but prices are much better here on Amazon than book stores.

Great success

Our 8 year old daughter got one of the books earlier in the year and I noticed her interest in reading more. Once the box arrived she was very happy and couldn't wait to read them all. This may not be the most ideal literature - it is however in my opinion significantly better to see kids read than having them waste away in front of mindless TV.

A funny series that the entire family will enjoy

Our son recently was exposed to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. We ordered the box set as a Christmas gift for him. It was sold out in stores around us because of the popularity. The books do have some funny innuendo's that you may not want your kids repeating but it is age appropriate and our kids know what is appropriate for discussion with their friends. The books are crazy entertaining, funny, and will make you laugh out loud. We use them as bedtime reading. We take 30 minutes every night to read to our son and it is really enjoyable. There are illustrations that are quite funny as well.
These are books that our son does not mind reading over and over again. We do continue to purchase new books in the series as they come out also. The box that these come in make it easy to keep them all together.
I recommend these for kids in the 2nd grade through 5 or sixth depending on your child's maturity level. You will enjoy many laughs. Our entire family enjoys this series.

About the Author

Ioan D. Marinescu is associate professor of the Abrasive Micro-Machining Laboratory at the University of Toledo, Toledo, Ohio. He previ-ously held similar positions at Kansas State University and the University of Connecticut. He has given numerous presentations on various aspects of ceramic grinding in the United States and in Europe.

Hans K. Tonshoff is professor and director of the Institution for Production Engineering at the University of Hannover, Hannover, Germany. He is also director of the Hannover Laser Center. His main interest is in manufacturing technology, machine tools, and production information systems.

Ichiro Inasaki is professor, Faculty of Science and Technology, at Keio University, Yokohama, Japan. He has won awards from the Mechanical Engineers, Grinding Engineers, and Precision Engineers Societies in Japan, and ten awards from the Japan Machine Tool Engineering Foundation. In 1998, he was a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States.

Decent book, but a LOT of inaccuracies

Overall, this is a decent and well written book. It is pretty short (less than 40 pages, I finished it in about 20 minutes) and is intended mostly to novice traders. More advanced traders probably will not benefit much from it.

The author starts with a statement that "there is no way you will be successful trading options on earnings if you go into the trade one-sided. The only smart way to trade earnings is by remaining neutral". This is where I'm in a full agreement with the author.

My main issue with the book is the same as with the author's articles on Seeking Alpha: he completely ignores the risks of most of those trades. As we all know, risk is directly related to the reward and the probability of success. There are no free lunches in trading. Most of the strategies described in the book can work very well, but when they don't because the stock moved too much or too little, the losses can be catastrophic.

For example, the author describes the Reverse iron Condor and says "it has much narrower break even points than the straddle or strangle". He also says that "the stock does not have to move tremendously to profit".

Both statements are inaccurate. The truth is that break even points and profit potential depends on the strikes you choose. The further the strikes, the higher the profit potential, but the stock also has to move more. With tighter strikes, you have lower profit potential bit also higher probability of success. What is completely missing here is mentioning the fact that if the stock doesn't move enough, the loss can be very significant. The author presented a similar GOOG trade in one of his Seeking Alpha articles and promised that "the trade recommendation I am writing about will work like a charm." The stock did not move as expected and the trade lost 100%. He did not disclose any of the risks involved in the trade.

There are a lot of other inaccuracies in the book. For example, when describing the calendar spread, the author says that "calendar spread has one of the highest returns on investment". In fact, there are a lot of factors involved (Implied Volatility, time to expiration etc.) that have a direct impact on a potential profit. As mentioned, the Reverse Iron Condor can have a very high profit potential if the strikes are far enough from the underlying and the stock moves enough (as shown in NKE example).

The descriptions of a straddle as "extremely risky trade and the one I use the least" and the strangle as "one of my favorites" is surprising and misleading as well. The truth is that the straddle is much less risky than a strangle, especially when using far OTM strikes. The strangle has higher profit potential but also requires larger move. The fact that it requires less capital has nothing to do with the risk - risk is always measured as percentage of invested capital. So once again - higher risk, higher reward.

In the last chapter the author describes a strategy of selling ahead of the earnings release. This strategy is described by Jeff Augen in his books and is based on the fact that IV is rising before earnings, and in many cases, this rise will offset the theta. I have been using this strategy very successfully on my SteadyOptions forum. The author makes a case that this strategy would not work since the potential gains are too small. He claims that options trading is meant to be utilized for leverage only. This of course is ridiculous. In fact, none of the neutral strategies described in the book utilize leverage.

The simple truth is that there is more than one way to Rome. The power of options is in their versatility, in your ability to control the risk/reward. Some strategies will aim for higher gains but also experience higher losses. Others aim for steady and consistent 10-20% gains with very low risk. The key of any strategy is knowing and controlling risk, and this is the main thing missing in this book.

great set of information, but could have been better organized

O'Brien did a great job keeping it simple and real, making this options book a pleasure to read. Kudos!

However, I hope the author takes a few steps to make this book into a gem easily. For each strategy, it would be good to organize author's comments into sub-sections. For example, I made my own notes from this book using the following:
1. Setup Name
2. When to use it
3. When to avoid it
4. How & when to get in (author calls constructing the setup)
5. How & when to exit
6. What to watch out for
7. Advantages/disadvantages (like author already has -loved it!)

In the current version, author seems to cover most all of the above, but it is spread throughout the chapters.

On a lesser note, there are some typos and grammatical mistakes that can easily be ignored.

Rushed this book out

I have been an ongong fan of Don Pendleton series for years.
With a monthly release per book on this, some can get sloppy.
Typos, even a dropped section of the story that didn't connect, probably to meet their standard page maximum.
Not up to their par on this release.
Story was good as normal, but other stuff slipped.

About the Author

Dr. Rajaram is a geotechnical and environmental engineer with 35 years of experience in sustainable environmental management. He obtained his B.E. from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, and a J.D. from Illinois Institute of Technology, Kent College of Law, Chicago. He has completed several large projects related to hazardous waste management, mining engineering, wastewater treatment and recycling, and municipal solid waste management. He opened and managed the operations of Tetra Tech India Limited (TTIL) in Delhi from 1994 to 2002, and built TTIL into one of the respected environmental consulting firms in India. He has transferred several waste management technologies from the US to India in the areas of municipal solid waste, wastewater treatment, and hazardous waste management. He earlier published the book "Sustainable Mining Practices – A Global Perspective" (CRC Press, 2005). Dr. Rajaram is an associate at Techknow Engineering LLC Chicago, an architectural/engineering firm. He manages Construction Quality Assurance for the O’Hare Modernization Program projects, and the Delhi office of Techknow Engineering. Dr. Rajaram received the International Leadership Award in 2000 and the International Award of Merit in 2002 from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Chicago. Dr. Rajaram is active in community affairs, and serves on the Board of IIT Alumni Association and the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association. He is a Director at the Center for Transformation of Waste Technology in Wheaton, Illinois. He cofounded India Development Coalition of America (www.idc-america.org) in 2004 to promote sustainable development in India’s villages. Through this organization, he is assisting with water and sanitation projects in rural India.

Mr. Faisal Zia Siddiqui is an environmental engineer having 15 years of experience in the field of solid waste management. He has worked on several landfill gas to energy projects in India. The scope of these projects included quantitative and qualitative assessment of waste and landfill gas emission modeling. Mr Siddiqui obtained his B.Sc in Chemical Engineering in 1996 from Aligarh Muslim University (A.M.U), Aligarh, India and M. Tech in Energy and Environment Management in 2001 from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, India. He has numerous publications to his credit in various International and national conferences, seminars and journals. He is presently Assistant Professor in the University Polytechnic, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, A.M.U, India. He has previously worked with the World Bank, Confederation of Indian Industries, Tetra Tech India Limited and Sycom Project Consultants, India. He is presently pursuing his PhD in the area of landfill gas recovery.

Dr Emran Khan is a mechanical engineer with over 26 years of experience in teaching and research in the areas of clean energy systems, renewable energy systems, life cycle analysis of energy systems, energy auditing and energy recovery from solid waste. Dr Khan did his B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering in 1984 from A.M.U., M.Tech in Energy Studies in 1992 from IIT, Delhi and Ph.D in 1997 from Delhi University, India. He has several publications in various International and national conferences, seminars and journals. He is presently serving as Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi, India. Dr Khan is co-principal investigator for a research project on pilot demonstration of clean technology for landfill gas recovery sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. The project can be replicated to other landfill sites in India.
