God is good!

We had the privilege of getting to know Mary Ann and Randy on a trip to Israel in March with members of our church. Randy is the most positive person I have ever met. You NEVER see him without a smile. Reading his story truly makes you stop and thank God for the life you have been blessed with and praise God for what He has done in the lives of Randy and Mary Ann. I am amazed how Randy handled the situation and pain he had to endure and came through it with a faith that can move mountains. That can only come from God. There is a paragraph in the book that is the theme of Randy's life: "God is good. If you give your life and your future to God, and if you love Him, He will redeem the bad things that happen in your life. As it says in Romans 8:28-29, He will transform the terrible things that happen and use them for His glory. He may even go beyond that and make your recovery and transformation a platform for you to help others." That is Randy. When your path crosses with Randy and Mary Ann's, you are truly blessed and can see God working through the two of them. This story will not disappoint. I started it on Christmas Day and did not put it down until I finished it.

Hadicapped by an accident, Randys' book is a rare find for a life worth living

Some lives are meant to be told, Randy has one of those lives that needs to be read. Thank you Randy for being honest in the way you share how tragic life can be when someone in your work environment is not only careless but unfeeling as well. The way you explain having to forgive every time the root of bitterness tries to form in your heart reminds me of Corrie Ten Boom and the guard who was so cruel to her and her sister, and Corries' struggle to forgive him. If there is a person out there who needs to read a book to help them cope with their own handicapped life they need to read this one. Randy is truly an inspiration for the rest of us. Thank you Randy and Mary Ann for allowing others to glimpse into your lives and take some comfort and encouragement for our own struggles through life. May the Lord keep you close to Him always,

Bob and I have known Randy and Mary Ann for several years, and had heard him speak about his life on the subject of forgiveness. It was so good and I think about him when I feel I have been wronged, so minor to his situation. This book is great, shows how God has worked so many blessings in their lives physical and spiritual to help people from all walks of life. I could not put it down, easy to read and really makes you know no matter how hard times can get, God has a plan for all of us. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be inspired and read about a true miracle.

Judging by the Chapter Headings, this maybe Freedom(tm) in German

This appears to be a translation into German, of Suarez' 2nd novel, Freedom(tm). It's a great novel, following his earlier cyber-thriller, Daemon, but unless you read German, there are probably better choices to be made than purchasing this one. For example, Daemon, or, Freedom(tm) (in English), or his new one, Kill Decision. This isn't meant to sound like I'm saying one language is superior to any other - just that it's always good to understand what one is reading.

About the Author

Dr. Fine holds a doctorate in Jewish history from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, an MA in art history from the University of Southern California and a BA in religious studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

About the Author
The late James Stewart received his M.S. from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He did research at the University of London and was influenced by the famous mathematician George Polya at Stanford University. Stewart was most recently Professor of Mathematics at McMaster University, and his research field was harmonic analysis. Stewart was the author of a best-selling calculus textbook series published by Cengage Learning, including CALCULUS, CALCULUS: EARLY TRANSCENDENTALS, and CALCULUS: CONCEPTS AND CONTEXTS, as well as a series of precalculus texts.

Troy Day received his M.S. in biology from the University of British Columbia and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Queen's University. His first academic position was at the University of Toronto, before being recruited back to Queen's University as a Canada Research Chair in Mathematical Biology. He is currently a Professor of Mathematics and Statistics and a Professor of Biology. His research group works in areas ranging from applied mathematics to experimental biology. Troy Day is also coauthor of the widely used book A BIOLOGIST'S GUIDE TO MATHEMATICAL MODELING, published by Princeton University Press in 2007.

Great book, working very well for me

This book is really clear, concise, and practical. I'm a System Engineer currentry starting biology studies, and I chosed this book between various options available. I love the clean presentation and easy reading. There are many working problems available to try on each topic. Exampleas are easy to follow. No aparetn mistakes as another books. There are other great books, but this is working very well for me.

Sometimes a writer has to revisit the classics, and here we find that "gonzo journalism"--gutsy first-person accounts wherein the author is part of the story--didn't originate with Hunter S. Thompson or Tom Wolfe. Aldous Huxley took some mescaline and wrote about it some 10 or 12 years earlier than those others. The book he came up with is part bemused essay and part mystical treatise--"suchness" is everywhere to be found while under the influence. This is a good example of essay writing, journal keeping, and the value of controversy--always--in one's work.

In 1953, Aldous Huxley took four-tenths of a gram of the drug Mescalin, sat down and waited to see what would happen. When he opened his eyes everything was transformed. He describes his experience in The Doors of Perception and its sequel Heaven and Hell.

Aldous Huxley (1894-1963), English-born but a California resident from 1937 on, is best known for his works Brave New World, Crome Yellow, Point Counter Point, and The Doors of Perception.

Published in 1954, this remains a classic in the literature of psychedelia and spirituality

I first read this book when I was 13. I am now 66. Did it influence my life? Looking back, perhaps even more so than I had realized. It was 1963 when I read it. I had been reading dystopias and had just finished "Brave New World." There was so much talk about LSD, mescaline, peyote and other hallucinogens as being "mind-expanding" and all that stuff that is now history. One interesting point of history regarding Aldous Huxley's life. He died the day JFK was shot. He was taking LSD at the time because he wanted to experience death as fully as he could.
The title was taken from William Blake who had said, "If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite." That quote and this book would later help Jim Morrison in naming his band, "The Doors."
I read it with rapt attention. I was entranced. When I reread it recently, I was amazed at how much I remembered and how much of my life choices it had influenced.
I do remember that I promised myself at that young age, that when I was older, I would try these drugs as the search for "God" and spirituality was very important to me then and is still now.
In particular, I recall the passage where, staring at a simple chair, Huxley waxed eloquently about what the chair revealed about its maker. Most of all, I recall his referring to perceiving the "isness" of the chair.
This book was originally published in 1954. It was an important book then and it remains so now. It is a "must-have" for the library of any seeker of the truth, any who seek "higher learning", (pun intended and not), any who are investigators of world spirituality. Very highly recommended.

i've never had someone parallel my thoughts on psilocybin so perfectly, yet in the absolute best wording possible... Worth a read for all of you who have had an eye opening trip and need to consolidate some of your thoughts. Huxley somehow predicted our building of perception when we would not solidify these theories until just recently with modern neuroscience. He did it with his own doors of perception, and excellent philosophical mindset. He predicted many things that are true. I was shocked when I found out this was written in the 50's. A true renegade of his time.
"Most of these modifiers of consciousness cannot now be taken except under doctor’s orders, or else illegally and at considerable risk. For unrestricted use the West has permitted only alcohol and tobacco. All the other chemical Doors in the Wall are labeled Dope, and their unauthorized takers are Fiends."

Enlightening and Enjoyable

Overall, great read and very enlightening in terms of perspective. Tough to follow and understand deeper meaning at times, but if you go back and re-read one or two times everything starts to click. I loved this book and the perspective of both sides throughout.

Michael David is the author of WordPress Search Engine Optimization (now in 2nd Edition on Packt Publishing) and is a veteran of the search engine optimization industry. He founded the Austin-based WordPress development and search engine optimization firm, TastyPlacement (Tastyplacement.com), which still thrives today. He originally trained as a lawyer and pursued Internet marketing as a second career. He lives in Austin, Texas.

Useful and insightful guide

Michael David explains in a very detailed, thorough and balanced way in his manual Wordpress Search Engine Optimization (2nd ed.) how SEO for WordPress sites works. David explains that; "It's important to keep in mind the role of the search engine. Too often, webmasters think or say Google is against them because Google appears to rank lower-value sites in favor of their own. The truth is the exact opposite: Google wants you to rank – as long as your result serves the need of its user base. You need to give Google what it’s looking for (or Yahoo or Bing, as the case may be), and Google will rank your site higher." (p.3) I was somewhat unnerved by David's to-the-point disambiguation and clarifications of the world of Google and SEO. But don't shoot the messenger: He is merely stating outright what many people don't know and will never find out, unless they read this. He gives the reader the advantage of his insider knowledge. Never again will you be fooled by spam, or hoax emails or all the other nonsense that pitches up on your site or in your in-box. I realized how much more there is for me to do, how things hang together, and which mistakes I must avoid. It was a real eye-opener. Particularly useful chapters are:
Chapter 1: SEO Basics
Chapter 5: Creating Optimized and Engaging Contents
Chapter 6: Avoiding SEO Mistakes
Chapter 7: Testing Your Site and Monitoring Your Progress
I would recommend you buy the ebook or pdf version of this manual because of all the hyperlinks in it (specifically in the Appendices that list the plugins and resources). Apart from being comprehensive and balanced, David also has a good writing style that makes the argumentation flow and draws the reader into the explanations, which are often complex. If you have a WordPress site, I would say this is one of the best manuals and technical handbooks to refer to and keep on hand.
